The Post Graduate Department of Konkani at Government College of Arts, Science & Commerce, Quepem, Goa, is committed to fostering critical thinking, analytical skills, and a deeper understanding of Konkani language, literature, folklore, and culture. The M.A. Konkani Programme aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the subject while encouraging them to explore language and literature through diverse academic and interdisciplinary perspectives.
The Department strives to maintain the relevance and quality of the programme through regular curriculum updates and innovative teaching-learning practices. It provides an enriching academic environment that encourages students to appreciate the linguistic and cultural heritage of Konkani while engaging with contemporary literary and cultural developments. Modern and effective pedagogical approaches are adopted to enhance students’ knowledge, creativity, communication skills, and readiness to meet the challenges of an evolving professional world.
Spanning four semesters, the M.A. Konkani Programme is designed to develop students’ academic and professional competencies, including presentation skills, public speaking, critical analysis, and effective communication. Special emphasis is placed on cultivating a research-oriented mindset, enabling students to undertake scholarly inquiry and contribute meaningfully to the fields of Konkani language and literature.
The Department’s major areas of study include language, literature, folklore, and culture, explored through interdisciplinary perspectives such as linguistics, sociology, history, and other related fields. Through this broad-based approach, the programme seeks to nurture informed, reflective, and culturally conscious individuals equipped to contribute to academia, research, education, and other professional domains.
Eligibility and Admission
Admission to the M.A. Konkani Programme is open to eligible candidates from across India, subject to the eligibility criteria and admission guidelines prescribed by Goa University.
The general eligibility and admission requirements are as follows:
1. Educational Qualification: A Bachelor’s Degree recognised by Goa University.
2. Minimum Marks: A minimum of 40% aggregate marks, as prescribed by the University.
3. Admission Process:Admission is based on the merit list prepared based on marks obtained in GU-ART Qualifying Examination by Goa University.
